Joy Springs Opshop

Hello! My name is Rhonda Shandley, and I’m from Joy Springs, a remote community just outside of Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia. We are excited to be starting an OpShop here in Joy Springs to support our families and community. Our goal is to begin small, focusing on providing clothing to mothers, babies, and families in need, especially during funerals, which are important cultural events in our community. If this initial effort goes well, we hope to expand and do something bigger to continue helping our people.

Joy Springs, also known as Eight Mile Community Aboriginal Corporation, is located 22 kilometers east of Fitzroy Crossing, along the Great Northern Highway. The community was established after Gooniyandi elder Jock Shandly requested land from the station. While the community is widely known as Joy Springs, its official name registered with the Office of the Registrar for Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) is Eight Mile Community Aboriginal Corporation. The spring itself, a significant site for the community, is called Juwardi Ngardi.

We are grateful for any support you can offer as we work to provide essential items for our families and strengthen our community. Thank you for helping us make a difference!

Items we need most:

  • Children clothes boys and girls ages 2-12 years
  • Men clothes- jeans/ warm jumpers during the dry season
  • Women’s clothes- larger sizes 16 and up.
  • Towels, Linen and Curtains are in demand in

The widespread support of people all over Australia has been overwhelming and we are thankful to everyone who has contributed and supported us on this journey.
