Hi I’m Marcus from SolidRootz!

Thank you for accepting us onto this page We are based in a remote island community called Milingimbi, NE Arnhem Land! We are about 1,000 strong, still with rich cultural knowledge that has been handed down from generation to generation, still being practiced to this day providing young people with the foundations to walk strongly in two worlds, which is now more important than ever. Through our SolidRootz youth program, we are proud to share a positive image and the true story of a beautiful culture and humble people.

Solidrootz is a youth health and well-being program, where we provide young people with a safe space, quality engagement every week and the opportunity to come and hang out, do some exercise and have a feed. We’re working hard to keep the program going despite funding challenges, and we hope to start a community-run OpShop to help support its future. The OpShop will be run by a team of local community members, it will be their project to keep it running.

The opshop will provide families with much needed clothing and other items, and funds raised through the opshop will support cultural homeland camps, taking families back to Country for a week of camping, hunting, and reconnection, which is vital for mental health and wellbeing. They will also enable sporting trips to nearby communities, fostering intercommunity relationships and keeping young people engaged in positive activities.
