Ngariny Wanti OpShop
Mulan is located in the East Kimberley close to Lake Gregory. It is part of the Kutjungka region and has a population of about 100. The nearest town is Halls Creek which is about 200 km away.
Mulan is a small Aboriginal Community in Western Australia’s east Kimberley, it is part of the Kutjungka region and is home to about 100 people.
In late 2018 Remote OpShop Project was contacted by women in the community via the Mulan Clinic. They expressed a strong interest in starting their own little OpShop in Mulan, to support the women and their families to access affordable clothing and house hold goods, otherwise out of reach for many in such a remote part of Australia.
After a call out to the Remote OpShop Community, parcels came flooding in for Mulan from all over Australia.
“I am just in awe at the generosity of people. We received still more parcels today and I am just about in tears. Once again, the women of Mulan are very grateful for this help. I believe that many good works and projects will arise from the op shop.” Heidi, Mulan Clinic
The Ngariny Wanti OpShop (which means clothing shop) is now up and running supported by the local school and clinic, and have raised enough money so far to buy a projector screen which they plan to play movies and video on health, wellbeing and culture.
The women are also looking to start sewing and making furnishings like curtains for their homes from the local Art Centre. Plus, there’s a lot of knowledge in bush medicine, and enterprise ideas about bush soaps, balms, and teas, with an awesome group of women driving the Rangers Program!
More updates to come from Mulan, thank you to every that has supported their journey to so far.
