Providing Affordable Essentials

2025 IMPACT METRICS

In remote communities, the cost of everyday essentials can be extreme.

A towel that might cost $3 in an urban supermarket can cost as much as $30 in a remote community store. When incomes can be as low as $300 a week, families are too often left choosing between household essentials and food.

Remote OpShop Project exists to help change that. As Australia’s largest network of OpShops in remote First Nations communities, Remote OpShop Project now operates across 45+ locations plus a Reuse Hub in Darwin, improving access to affordable clothing and essential goods in places where distance, isolation, and limited retail options drive up the cost of living.

Each year, more than 200,000 kilograms of clothing and goods are contributed through a growing network of 50,000+ public donors and select brand partners. These donations help communities access quality items at affordable prices, while brand partnerships help prioritise high-value goods and keep useful items in circulation for as long as possible.

The growth of the network over the past 12 months reflects both rising community demand and growing public support. Donor numbers have grown by 135% and OpShop locations have increased by 125%, showing the strength of a model that improves access, reduces waste, and keeps more value in remote communities.
