Wingellina

Wingellina Community (also known as Irrunytju) is a remote Aboriginal community located in the far east of Western Australia on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, near the Northern Territory and South Australian borders. The community has a population of approximately 130 people and is home to speakers of Ngaanyatjarra and Pitjantjatjara languages, with strong cultural connections to Country, family, and community life.

A central part of the community is the Minyma Kutjara Art Centre, a highly respected women’s art centre that plays a vital role in cultural expression, economic participation, and community wellbeing.

The Wingellina OpShop operates from the community hall and is run through a joint effort between CDP, the local school, and the youth program, with strong volunteer involvement. The OpShop provides affordable clothing and essential household items for residents, while also acting as a shared community space. Funds raised through the OpShop are returned directly to support community activities, strengthening local ownership and reinvestment in the community.
