Powering the Remote OpShop Project: REDARC and Community-Led Impact

REDARC Electronics has played a key role in strengthening the Remote OpShop Project’s ability to reach some of the most remote communities in Australia. As a major partner, REDARC has provided integrated technical expertise, infrastructure, and funding support that enables community-led OpShops to operate across vast and often challenging landscapes.

The Remote OpShop Project supports community-led OpShops in remote First Nations communities across Australia. This network of 40+ OpShops is strengthening community-owned enterprise, reducing waste, and generating independent funding that stays within community.

Operating in remote Australia brings significant logistical challenges – often transporting goods more than 3,000 kilometres across dirt roads, floodways, and isolated tracks. In response, the 4WD Mobile OpShop was developed as a flexible, mobile solution that brings affordable clothing, access, and opportunity directly to community.

In the past 12 months alone, the Mobile OpShop has travelled more than 40,000 kilometres, reaching some of the most isolated communities in the country.

A Partnership That Goes Beyond Equipment

REDARC Electronics’ major sponsorship enabled the professional fit-out of the 4WD Mobile OpShop – an Isuzu NPS 300 – with installation delivered by REDARC REDnetwork member Tate Auto Electronics. More importantly, with REDARC power solutions, the Remote OpShop is able to operate off grid where it matters most.

REDARC worked closely with the Remote OpShop Project team to understand the unique operating environment, providing expert technical advice to ensure the vehicle is equipped to operate safely, reliably, and independently off-grid. This capability gives our team the confidence to focus on working alongside communities knowing we have reliable power, even when we are days from the nearest town.

Alongside technical expertise and equipment, REDARC has also supported the project through marketing and storytelling, helping to build awareness with staff, customers, and the broader community, as well as through a generous financial contribution that directly supports the implementation of OpShops in remote locations.

“Supporting the Remote OpShop Project aligns strongly with REDARC’s purpose of enabling people to explore, work and operate in the most remote parts of Australia with confidence. Reliable off grid power is critical when you are travelling thousands of kilometres between communities, and we are proud to contribute our technology and expertise to help ensure the Mobile OpShop can operate safely, reliably and independently wherever it is needed most. Partnerships like this demonstrate how practical, well designed power solutions can support meaningful, community led initiatives across regional and remote Australia.”

Emma Kittel, Customer Experience Manager

With REDARC’s support, the Mobile OpShop can travel further, stay longer, and operate consistently in places where infrastructure is limited or non-existent. Their involvement demonstrates the value of partnerships that are practical, collaborative, and aligned with community-led outcomes.
