Pipalyatjara (On Pause)
Pipalyatjara and Kalka are remote communities located on the borders of South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory in the APY Lands, with a combined population of around 300 people. Pitjantjatjara is the main language spoken across both communities. Due to our remote location, access to affordable everyday essentials is very limited. Our local store has only basic supplies and does not stock important items such as underwear and socks. With the nearest major shopping centre around eight hours away, it can be very difficult for families to access the clothing and household items they need.
We are establishing a community OpShop to give local families affordable access to everyday clothing and household goods through a mix of donated and purchased items. Funds raised through the OpShop will go directly back into the community to support children and young people through sports equipment and recreational activities. One of our long term goals is to build a basketball half court and install a basketball ring for the community.
Items we need most:
Baby clothing for boys and girls (sizes 0–3)
Girls clothing including t shirts, trackpants, jumpers and sports shorts (sizes 4–16)
